Microsoft is retiring Azure Data Engineer Associate DP-203

Microsoft is going to retire the Associate Azure Data Engineer DP-203 exam.  For everyone that has been working towards attaining this certification, the exam will retire on March 31st 2025.  If you are reading this before that date you still have time to go take the exam or re-new your exam to have the certificate valid for a longer time.

This certification is being replaced with the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification, which will contain similar content but will push us towards using Fabric.  Even though the DP-203 certificate is retiring the services and tools on that exam will still exist.  Having working knowledge from the contents of DP-203 is still contemporary as MSFT has given us no news of retiring services such as Synapse, Azure Blob, or other services from the exam such as Event Hubs.

The Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification will replace the services from DP-203 and gear them towards the services in Fabric. MSFT will remove Data Bricks from the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification and will start focusing more on KQL instead of SQL.

Kusto Query Language (KQL) seems to be becoming the query language for Azure and learning KQL will be very beneficial for us along with Azure Data Explorer.  Please read “Why Data Engineers should use Azure Data Explorer (ADX)?”
